Year 3 Christingle
Year 3 Christingle
The 12th day of our musical Christmas falls on Titus and Jemima’s last day at Walhampton – we couldn’t let them leave without a lighthearted look back at some of the things they’ve brought to the school. So here is the whole school singing ‘The 12 Days of Millsmas’!
Nursery and Kindergarten would like to invite you to join them in their weekly singing lesson with Mrs Mudd. They’ve been learning some Christmas songs and last Thursday we recorded the lesson for you all to enjoy the charm of the youngest members of our school. We hope you will be particularly impressed with the round-robin!
Year 7 have been learning about jazz concepts this term and so decided to use those skills for their Christmas performance. With jazzy rhythms, awesome improvisation and lots of fun altogether, we have two performances of ‘Good King Wences-jazz’!
These are just the songs from The Pre-Prep Nativity.
It has been Mrs Mudd’s absolute pleasure to work with the Pre-Prep children to film their nativity play over the last two weeks. They have been so patient as we recorded all the songs, dances and action in their year group bubbles. It’s a roving performance and we found lots of locations around the school grounds to bring the story to life. Thank you to all the Pre-Prep staff for their help – we are ever so proud of our budding young film stars, they are completely adorable performers.
All choirs are now rehearsing each week within their year group bubbles. Hot off the success of their performance in Friday’s nativity blockbuster, the Year 8 Chapel Choir are showcasing the beautiful ‘Christmas Blessing’, by Lloyd Larson (do join in with ‘Silent Night’ at the end!). Year 6 (who were also featured in yesterday’s film, did you hear them?) sing the classic ‘O Holy Night’ and Year 7 have been learning a Spanish carol, ‘A La Nanita Nana’, which leads into the timeless ‘Coventry Carol’.
Year 6 class work this term has focused on singing techniques and listening to each other whilst holding melodies and harmonies. They chose this chilled out Christmas tune to show off their skills and everyone was given the chance to sing in a smaller group if they wanted. This is ‘That’s Christmas to me’ by Pentatonix, sung by all of Year 6, recorded safely and within their classes.
Year 2 children read aloud some of the best and worst Christmas cracker jokes of 2020. Get ready to laugh and groan along with us.
John Lennon is one of Miss Simmonds’ musical heroes, and who better to bring this wonderful song, ‘Happy Christmas (War is Over)’ to life than the brilliant Year 5 classes. In a year unlike no other, the lyrics are particularly poignant and the message clear – ‘A very Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year. Let’s hope it’s a good one, without any fear’.
Year 4 Ensembles
With our music teacher Miss Simmonds, Year 4 have been learning to rehearse and perform as part of a musical ensemble this term. Miss Simmonds has been struck by the wonderful musical ability of all of the children and, when thinking of a suitable Christmas piece for them to perform, she was inspired to compose ‘Waiting for Christmas’, which highlights the vocal and instrumental talents of this lovely year group.
